Canvas Wall Art - Head Trip

Canvas Wall Art - Head Trip |

Head Trip by Sam Freek |
Created this colourful spectacle on the computer over the past few days. I've already created a few paintings like this but I wanted to add one to the canvas wall art section. I just love lots of colours and random shapes and creating art out of disorder. The first thing I do when creating a piece like this is draw the large squiggle that dominates the artwork and runs randomly across it. The squiggle doesn't say or mean anything, its just like a path that takes your eyes on a journey from one side of the artwork to the other. The explosion of random shapes and colours underneath the squiggle are placed exactly where I want them to be so its organised chaos. Maybe that should have been the title? I think I will save it for the next one I draw.
This limited edition canvas wall art is available to buy online from my wibbly wobbly website www.didgiwidgi.co.uk or I also have www.didgiwidgi.com as I'm a bit greedy like that. The artwork can be bought as a landscape, square or triptych in various sizes and with mirrored, white or black edges too that helps define the artwork as all the canvas wall art prints are hand mounted onto 1.5 inch stretcher bars so they really 'pop' out when hung on your wall. A fine layer of gloss varnish is also applied at the end to protect the artwork (I want them to last forever) and it also brings out the colours in the art. If you have any questions about this canvas wall art or any other on my website then please do not hesitate to contact me (Sam Freek). I was going to say thanks for looking but that's like an ebay thing....what the hell...thank you for looking! :-)

Black Tulip Pub, Dewsbury, Yorkshire - Photography

Black Tulip Pub, Dewsbury, Yorkshire - Photography |
The Dyers Arms in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire later became known as The Black Tulip and it was here where all the music lovers went who were into heavy metal. At the age of ten I would go to a nearby roller disco on Saturday afternoon that played all the chart music and my mum would give me enough money for my bus fare, a few games of space invaders and the entry fee into the disco. After roller skating around in circles for hours and hours me and my friend would make our way to the bus station and we would pass "The Black Tulip" and hear rock music blaring out. Everyone who went in and out of the pub looked so cool with their long hair and leather jackets with cut off denim waistcoats and holey jeans, I wanted to be like them, but I also wanted to know what went on in there and what music they were listening to, so one day we went inside.
We walked inside and it was warm and everyone was shouting to make themselves heard over the loud music. I didn't want to go to the roller disco anymore I wanted to be in there listening to the music, I made my way over to the juke box which was high up on the wall and started to press the buttons to look at what music they were all listening to. Before I got a chance to look the landlord shouted "Oy, what you doing in here?" I turned and said "we're just looking for somebody" and pretended to slowly walk around the pub looking for "Mr Nobody" then made our exit.
Going to the roller disco never seemed the same after that, I wanted to be where the adults were listening to music, so I found out there was a disco for teenagers at a nightclub called Dr Zhivago's on a Saturday afternoon. One Saturday we went down and managed to get in, the person on the door gave me a knowing look as I blagged my way in pretending to be older than my years. As I walked down the steps into the basement (that's where the nightclub was) I could hear "Ghost Town" by The Specials being played and I can remember my heart pounding with excitement as I got to the dance floor and everybody was dancing around in their fishtail parkers and rude boy suits, I never went to the roller disco again, I had found my little slice of heaven.

Why I Don't Like The Colour Purple - Drawing

Why I Don't Like The Colour Purple |
I was looking through my website (www.didgiwidgi.co.uk) and I noticed that I don't have many canvas wall art prints that are purple, so I asked myself why? My earliest recollection of not liking the colour purple is when I was around 6 years old and my mum used to make me wear these awful frilly purple knickers with pink flowers on. Not wanting to wear them anymore I decided I would get rid of them, not by throwing them in the bin as my mum may find them, but I thought I would bury them in the front garden. With a plastic spade (the ones you build a sand castle with) and the knickers stuffed in my pocket I went to "play" in the front garden. The soil was hard and I couldn't dig down far so I moved what earth I could and threw the knickers in this shallow grave covering them up quickly before anyone saw me. When I stood up and turned around I saw that my mum and dad had been watching me from the window, they asked what I had been doing so I told them I had been digging holes (like you do) and I thought the knickers were gone forever. Within the next couple of days the knickers appeared back in my drawer....MY MUM HAD FOUND THEM! It was like my worst nightmare, my parents had seen me bury the knickers and put them back in my drawer. After my parents had stopped laughing they let me throw them in the bin, never to be seen again. So, I think this has left a mental purple scar on my brain and that is why I don't like the colour purple.

Wigan Pier - 90's Rave
![]() |
Wigan Pier |
I went to watch a rugby match the other week in Wigan (Yorkshire vs Lancashire....Yorkshire lost pah!) and on the way to the rugby ground I ended up going past a building that used to be a nightclub called "Wigan Pier", I think it's now offices. This nightclub used to be part of the rave scene in the early 90's and we would travel over from Yorkshire to dance the night away with our glow sticks and pray that the night would never end. There was always a massive queue and if you were at the back there was a risk you wouldn't get in.
This one weekend me and a friend ended up near the back of the queue and just as we got to the main entrance the bouncer said "we're full", my heart sank as I could hear the music playing and all I wanted to do was dance. We were devastated, so off me and my friend went to the other side of the river to a pub and we stood in the window with sad faces looking over at the nightclub. Then, we spotted some of the nightclub goers had opened the fire door to let all the steam out and to cool down (it would get red hot in there), they continued to dance at the top of the fire exit on the balcony so we saw our queue to get in. We ran over to the fire exit and danced our way up the steps as if we had found gold, as soon as we got to the top of the steps a bouncer came out and said "come on you lot get inside". Me and my friend carried on dancing with the group and even apolgised to the bouncer, WE WERE IN! We spent the rest of the night partying and happy as Larry. Always a great night to be had at Wigan Pier.
