Loading Bay - Urban Photography

Loading Bay

Love it when the sun comes out and throws shadows everywhere. Most of the time the shadow gets in the way but I don't mind this shadow intruding on this photo.

I am an Object - Art Photography

I am an Object

Put this collage together entitled "I Am An Object" from a photograph of myself and a few hazard stickers. It represented how I felt at the time.

Fag Break - Photography

Fag Break

I used to smoke and look forward to having a fag break and I also enjoyed smoking and drinking in the pub. In fact, I best not talk about it too much as I might start craving for one and give in. This photo is of a smoke break area, I look at the photo and wonder who sits there, what do they chat about, were the chairs once seen as comfortable office chairs?

Antique Shop - Photography

Antique Shop

Found myself another "antique" (anything not from Ikea) shop to look around as I had half an hour spare, an hour later I was still in there acting like a child in a sweet shop. I look at each bit of furniture and imagine what kind of person bought it, the house they lived in, the decor, bit of a mentally exhausting shopping trip really, but I love it and if I had the space and the money I would probably buy it all.

Hook a Duck - Photography

Hook a Duck

Yeh! Walked through a fairground at the weekend and came across the "Hook a Duck" stall which I like to play as I like to see how many ducks I can catch on the stick before it breaks.

Secure Parking - Photography

Secure Parking

A photo of a "seen better days" secure car park, looking like its part of the 70s/80s. There seems to be always an "eye sore" of a building in some suburb.

Naff Christmas Presents

Naff Christmas Presents

Made these "Naff" Christmas presents to represent the £2.1bn us Brits spent last year on unwanted Christmas presents. My sister once asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told her I wanted some vinyl LPs, I got a bread maker.

Spud Gun - Photography

Spud Gun

I like old and new fun toys/gadgets and hoard them which means they tend to clutter up my office space. This is an old spud gun that I bought second hand as it was one of my favourite toys as a child and I like the colour and markings on it. As well as the aesthetic pleasure I get from it, it is also fun firing small pellets of potato at people.

4:12 Minutes of Fame - Contemporary Art

4:12 Minutes of Fame

This is a twist on Andy Warhol's 15 minutes of fame. 4.12 minutes is the average time of a You Tube video and this artwork represents one of the highest viewed videos on You Tube.

Blue Leaf - Photography

Blue Leaf

Using an unnatural, cold colour I decided to change the leaf blue which highlights the form and the veins of the leaf and brings it back to life and shows off its natural beauty.

Towers of Industry - Photography

Towers of Industry

I love photographing old and new industrial buildings. Visually they are usually large with strong form and are like huge sculptures in the landscape made from steel and mechanical parts. They were and still are in some cases the backbone of the North of England.

Autumn Walk Through Town - Photography

Autumn Walk Through Town

I noticed how the leaves dance around your feet as you walk through them on an autumn day and I wanted to try and capture and accentuate the warm colour against the stark grey of concrete from the towns walkway to give an autumn feel in an otherwise lifeless view point.

50p Royalty - Photography

50p Royalty

I noticed these cups with the royal symbols on in a charity shop that were selling for a mere 50p. These cups were at one time treasured and kept for "best". It shows the slight decline in popularity I see sometimes for our Royal Family.

Whoopi Goldberg - Cartoon

When it's icy outside and the pavements are like glass I tend to walk like the character Whoopi Goldberg plays in the film "Ghost". I kind of stomp from side to side as if that will give me a better grip on the ice and I wont fall. Wasn't Whoopi funny in the film "Ghost" though, the part where she doesn't want to give the nun that cheque for millions and walks off in a huff, ha ha ha ....funny.

Hamster Tube With Posters

I love travelling around on the London tube and the tunnels that lead you to the platforms remind me of the tubes that hamsters have to run around in.

I Wanted To Be a Dancer on Top of the Pops - Cartoon

Thursday nights were always Top of the Pops night and in the early days when the TV programme couldn't get the band to play for whatever reason, a dance troupe called Legs and Co would put a routine together for the song. It seemed a pretty good job to have at the time and I used to dream about growing up and being a dancer with them (because they would never grow old and Top of the Pops would always be around).

Tina Turner - Cartoon

I do like listening to a bit of Tina Turner, she has an amazing voice and stage presence. I know she may have retired now but I think she should do one last tour for me at my local pub maybe? Oh, wow, can you imagine that? The local pub writes on their "What's On" board.....Tina Turner live on Saturday. Nobody would believe them and it would be like having my own private concert, well, me and the regulars that is.

Explosion of Words - Illustration

Explosion of Words

BANG! When I find it hard to express myself I feel the need to make those damn words explode in my mind and start again. There are memories that I have that I wish I could explode in a safe place in my mind, but then again they make the person who I have become.

Tiny Car - Cartoon

My friend has a really tiny car, its almost like riding in a shopping trolley. It gets her from A to B as the saying goes and is reliable so that's what matters. NO....she should charge people getting into her car, its like a white knuckle ride at the fair, I'm sure she goes around corners on two wheels.

House of Pain - Illustration

House of Pain

You know the house of pain exists and from time to time you try to unravel the squiggle that is the mess, but every time you do, the squiggle takes a different turn and you're back at the beginning. The only thing left to do is accept it or the mess will consume you.

Margaret Thatcher and Feelings of Nostalgia - Illustration

I don't think there is a day go by when I don't get the feeling of nostalgia, it might be because I am surround by vintage/retro belongings. When Margaret Thatcher died and clips of her were constantly on the TV I was overwhelmed by this feeling and I tried to make use of my time machine so I could go back and experience the 1970's but alas it didn't work.

If you could go back in time, what era would you go back to?

Monkey Head

The Victorians created animal head portraits and I too enjoy creating them. The more I look at them, the more I think to myself that if I actually saw a half human half animal walking down the road I wouldn't bat an eye lid. Have we turned into an unshockable society?

Windy Weather - Sketch

Windy weather,oh the joy of trying to look like you're ok with it whilst wobbling from side to side at a ninety degree angle, clutching onto your clothes in case they fly off with your hair swirling around your head making natty dreadlocks along with the tears streaming down your face. You arrive at your destination as if you have been sleeping rough for weeks. Thinking about it, if my hair is ever a mess I should just say "it's windy outside" and point towards the door.

Door To Another World - Photography

Door to another world

I regularly take photos of doors, especially when they have character. The door is from a derelict old mill and in my mind I see myself walking through that door and back to a time when the mill would have been buzzing with noise and life.

Photography - Bean on a Table

Went out and about taking photographs in town and called into a cafe. The cafe had this lonely baked bean on the table I was going to sit at.

Keeping Myself Entertained Shopping - Illustration

Every now and again I get the urge to be mischievous and when this happens out shopping I usually pop some random object in somebody else's shopping trolley. It's usually something that could be seen as embarrassing. I think I need to be supervised by an adult at all times.

Happy Harry Post Office Worker - Illustration

I don't know how some people get a job when they clearly are not happy working with the public. There's a lady who works at this Post Office I go to and she NEVER smiles and it's like she has the world on her shoulders. I've tried to make a joke but nothing, I should go in a fancy dress chicken outfit and see if that cracks a smile.

Who's going to sit next to me?

Waiting for a bus on the Amalfi Coast in Italy and this old lady was scoping who was going to come and sit next to her. I like the character in her face, older people have amazing faces which I love to photograph.

Poop in Pilates - Illustration

I do like going to pilates, especially if I spend all day on the computer and I'm hunched over like the hunchback of Notre Dame. Some of the moves that we do in pilates make a few people poop and that makes me want to chuckle.

No Vacancies - Photography

No Vacancies

These are net curtains that were hung up in a bed and breakfasts window. Not usually a big fan of net curtains, especially with flowers on as they make the room rather dull. But there was something inviting and yet secretive about these, it's almost like having a two way mirror on your window, you can see out but the people can't see in.

Trying to Get a Signal on Phone - Illustration

I have a mobile phone and sometimes I don't know why I bother having one as I can't get a signal on it where I live. I spend most of my time waving the thing around in the air trying to get one bar! So to make a phone call I end up squashing my face up against the bathroom window talking to someone so I don't break up!

Hangover Breakfast - Photography

Hangover Breakfast

Sitting in a cafe with a hangover and staring at the menu and wondering what to eat to help you get rid of that feeling. Wanting to order everything from the menu as you are hungry and indecisive with a cloudy brain. The lights shine brightly in your eyes and you realise you should wear shades even though its raining outside and you'll look like a rock star wannabe.

Sex Sells

Although I don't read the newspapers I do like to read the headlines outside the newspaper shops in my local town or a town/city I am visiting, just to get a feel of the character of the place. Every now and again the headlines make my eyes pop out in shock and this one did just that.

Northern Soul Jacket - Illustration

I like listening to the sounds of Northern Soul and it seems to be taking off again, not only with the older generation but with the young ones too. Still not been to a Northern Soul night yet, but in preparation I bought a real, British made, leather jacket, from the 70's that was actually worn by somebody who used to go to the Northern Soul nights back in the day. When I put the jacket on I feel like I have got some magic Northern Soul powers that will give me the ability to dance.

I love going to gigs and instead of taking a clear photo of the singer I wanted to try and capture the feeling of being drunk and the atmosphere that was coming off the crowd. The blur stretching across the top is of a scarf someone is waving about from side to side.

Vintage Advert - Leopard Design Car Seat Covers

I like these leopard skin car seat covers, my friends mum made me some out of fake fur for a golden Vauxhall Viva I used to own and I was so grateful for them as they kept you nice and warm as the heater always used to cut out and blow cold air. One of my friends at the time, who was a bit of a diva would sit in the back of the car crouched down so no one could see them as she was "embarrassed" at riding in a 70's looking car.

I wanted to create a surreal environment for this old lady to be in so I thought I'd place her on this roof. Old people tend to show a lot of inner strength which is reflected at her seeming ability to take a short cut over the top of the roof, nothing will stop her getting to the shops!

Home Made Mushroom Soup - Illustration

I've started making soups in the slow cooker as I can eat soup until the cows come home and my favourite one at the moment is mushroom. Usually I follow a recipe but this day I thought I'd try and wing it, but the soup turned out looking like cement. Not sure what I did wrong but I will follow the recipe from now on.

Vintage Advert - The Hard Disk You've Been Waiting For

Not sure about the year on this advert but a 10MB hard disk for $3398 *jaw drops*. My first computer was a Macintosh LC II or "pizza box" as they were otherwise known, it had a 30MB hard disc and 4-10MB of RAM, I used to have to wait forever when making graphics but it was a great computer to have at the time.

Childhood Fears....Moths - Illustration

I can't remember when it came about as I always seem to have had a kind of fear of moths. I'm still not sure if they just annoy me or I am fearful of them though. Moths always seem to want to fly around my head and they are just ugly butterflies who tap at your bathroom window when you switch the light on at night. A friend of mine used to be scared of birds, she would crouch down behind me and hold onto my waist if we ever had to walk near a town square where all the birds would usually hang out. If any of the birds flapped their wings, which they would, she would run off screaming down an alley until she felt safe to stop and turn around. I would find this highly amusing and the people in town would wonder what the bloody hell was going on.

Lucky Black Bubble In My Tea - Illustration

Somebody once told me it was a good luck to have a bubble in your tea. Not sure if they were just making it up or not but it has stuck in my head ever since. A friend of mine used to think it was bad luck to see the back of an ambulance and would hold her collar on her shirt until she clapped eyes on a dog. Bit of a strange superstition that one, although so was she ;-O.

Get Off My Cloud - Photography

Get off my cloud

Clouds are amazing, forever changing shape and look like they are part of a heavenly place. When flying above them I always imagine you can walk and bounce on top of the clouds. These three women are just taking a bare naked ride on one and braving the elements.
